Roles and Responsibilities

Independent Dispatcher:

  • Manage the day-to-day coordination of freight movement, ensuring timely pickups and deliveries.
  • Maintain constant communication with carriers, drivers, and customers to provide updates and resolve any transportation issues.
  • Utilize transportation management systems to track shipments and optimize routing efficiency.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers and establish long-term partnerships.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies.

Independent Drayage Dispatcher:

  • Specialize in coordinating drayage operations for port-to-warehouse or rail-yard movements.
  • Coordinate with port authorities, steamship lines, and drivers to ensure smooth container movements.
  • Handle documentation and permits required for drayage operations.
  • Monitor port congestion and devise alternative plans to minimize delays.
  • Collaborate with warehouse and distribution teams to streamline logistics processes.

Independent OTR Dispatcher:

  • Focus on dispatching over-the-road (OTR) carriers for long-haul transportation.
  • Plan efficient routes and schedules to optimize fuel efficiency and minimize transit times.
  • Address any driver-related issues, providing support and resolving concerns.
  • Collaborate with the safety team to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Monitor weather conditions and road closures to make real-time adjustments.


  • Proven experience as a dispatcher or in a logistics-related role (specific years may vary based on the position).
  • In-depth knowledge of the transportation industry, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to handle high-pressure situations.
  • Proficient in using transportation management systems and other relevant software.
